Life on this sphere of existence thrives on vanity, the need of man are so numerous that no man on this very earth gets satisfied. Our problem is lack of contention.
The Biblical Book of Ecclesiastes devotes efforts at explaining the vanity that is this life. The common refrain is, "Vanity upon vanity; all is vanity." The book brings to the fore the fact that man is constantly in pursuit of winds. When we consider that man is always throwing away his valuables in hot pursuit of inconsequentialities, we will come to appreciate the message of the Book of Ecclesiastes , but sometimes many people will say, lets make all goodies and money before thinking on those to call vanity. Its so funny on how people reason, yes we strive for good life but all need to walk through the path of integrity.
I am always afraid of what people do these days without recourse to their consequences. Proverbs says, "There is a food that is sweet to a man when he is eating it, but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel: " in everything we do, good or bad, there always consequence.
There is an afterwards in everything we do in life. Today, people roam the streets in search of people to snatch their bags, steal their valuables, etcetera in the name of bettering their lives. When you steal food from your
neighbour and he goes hungry while you eat his food, where is your joy? I am not a reverend but I see no happiness in making your fellow man unhappy.
I can recalled the old times, my grandmother and others were
always happy to see people feeding on them even though they may not have enough to eat. When i was younger, I considered what they were doing as stupidity. I was an insider, when we had visitors, I found it difficult to tell Mum that I would eat so as to ensure that I did not share my meager food with our visitors. However, my attitude towards others changed when I saw the need to share what I have with others.
There is joy in making other people happy. What do we see? Rather than share with others, people take pleasure in being wicked and heartless. The Me, Myself and I mentality now pervade the entire psyche of members of our society. It was Mahatma Gandhi, the revered Indian leader who said that the
"world has enough for every man's needs, but not enough for every man's greed. "
There is enough to meet the needs of everyone. There is no point that some people have more than enough to eat and to throw away while others do not have anything at all to eat. Jesus told His disciples, "Anyone who has two shirts should share with his neighbor who does not have any. " by doing this, you and your neighbor will be happy together. While should one be happy while the other is sad? It does not make sense at all.
If this philosophy of making your neighbor share whatever you have with you touches you, you should endeavour as much as you can to be fair to people around you. This legacy will help in your spiritual upliftment and in turn attract Divine graces upon your life.
It is time for every one of us to change our ways of life and seek our collective good instead of personal good at the expense of others. Jesus' question remains pertinent at all times: "What will it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his dear soul?".
Living for God and for others will make living on this plane of existence worth its weight in eternity.
To enjoy on earth , make others happy. To have enough, give enough to those in need. To have a fulfilled life, be a channel in which many lives will be fulfilled.
