My painful writing hand is about 50% better on the way of getting back to normal. Using a vertical mouse has helped take the pressure off of my wrist, which was a benefit to help along the healing process. These last couple of weeks of lessened activity has had one positive aspect; it gave me the time to seed new ideas for future long-form content for Hive.
It's also allowed me to consume content generated by some inspiring creators here, with ideas that I'm incorporating now, and will fold into my workflow when my hand is back to 100%. Believe me, I'm chomping at the bit to resume my habit of generating epic posts, where I can take the time to really flesh a subject out. Its much like Joe Rogan can get to the heart of the matter by letting his guests speak during a meaty 3+ hour interview.
But right now I'm limited to shorter posts, which is OK by me because contributing something to Hive is better than sitting back and doing nothing at all. This hand issue reminds me of a time years ago, where I tested a piece of software called 'Dragon NaturallySpeaking'.
A Helping Hand
It was designed to turn speech into text, and I was testing it for some of my telephony co-workers who were suffering from carpel tunnel injuries, and needed a way to type without using their hands.
One day I went to lunch and accidentally forgot to close the program. Upon my return, I discovered pages of text that it had generated from the conversations that were occurring around my workstation in my absence. It was disturbing to find that sensitive conversations had been inadvertently captured, and it was shocking to find out what people really thought about the people they worked with.
The software also had an unnerving habit of picking up what I called "ghost conversations" even when no one was dictating to it, in its vicinity. I'd watch in amazement while during a break, strange "conversations" would appear onscreen, all on their own.
I never did figure out where these spectral Matrix-like text came from, but it was part of the reason I stopped using the software and never went back to it. It's the reason why thoughts of using something like this again, crossed my mind, but quickly dissipated into the ether.
I think I'll give this paw a little more time to heal and continue generating content the old-fashioned way... With my hands. Until then, I'll give a "standing O" to those of you regularly sharing informative and inspiring content on Hive.
