First off, let me give props to the team behind the game that's taking the Steem blockchain by storm. Magic-Dice is as addictive and compelling as it is simplistic to use. I love the intuitive layout and all round functionality of the Dapp. Big up, yourselves, Magic-Dice devs!! But in the last couple days, I've also been hearing of a few horror stories regarding Steem accounts being emptied because of the magnetic pull of the game and people over-leveraging. After all, it is gambling at the end of the day. So, here are my thoughts on this matter...
Most important thing to realise is what you're buying into each time you play. and the simple answer would be the euphoric cost created by gambling. This is in no way to be treated as some sort of regular income or "get rich quick" tactic. Play for long enough and you're guaranteed to lose. Nobody wins against the house. It's just a question of your fortitude and mentality going in. Having no preconceived notions of winning even! The second you have spent Steem on your "turn", it's as good as going to an arcade machine and relinquishing a buck or two. You're paying for the thrill or rush of "playing a game".
I've already played quite a bit, having both lost and won in equal measure so far. However, scrolling down the feed to see some of the bet sizes some people have placed, almost makes my eyes water. In essence, you pay for that "buzz". And the more, the better. Hence, with increased stakes to win or lose, you're gonna have a much more exhilarating, pulse-pounding time at the table. It's all about paying for the experience and the amount put down is directly proportional to your levels of enjoyment.
I totally get that! But drugs work the same way. The more you buy, the higher you get. Until someone OD's, which translated into gambling terms, is blowing your account out. It's hard to earn Steem on this platform, especially given the harsh market conditions we're being subjected to. Maybe Magic-Dice also provides for a great distraction mechanism for this. And that's all well and good. But I urge you to take heed of everything I've written and gamble within your means. It's so easy to get carried away and I don't want people hating this game just because they over-leveraged their positions.
Keep it fun and treat it primarily as a "game" which requires expenditure without reward, in the long run. Otherwise, this is most definitely one of the best Dapps I've yet come across for the Steem blockchain. Onwards and upwards, my fellow peepz!
