I woke up at the Extended Stay America and ran the options through my head.
I'd been there for the better part of a week, basically waking up each morning and booking another night online and then groggily going to the front desk to pour a coffee and ask them to update my reservation.
Sometimes I'd get a vibe of like "who is this goof in his pajamas firing up one day at a time on Expedia?", like I just didn't fit in there with all the business people and whatnot.
So that plus my instincts to always book the cheapest room possible made me feel like moving on.
I'm close to having a normal place to live -- I can feel it in my bones. But for now I booked two nights at the Motel 6.
And not long after sending over the bitcoins, I realized Extended Stay America was cheaper than before, and not all that much more expensive than what I had just booked.
I'm a longtime believer that you don't get rich by paying more than you need to for a place to sleep. But when you consider that I'm already comfortable, that I have a kitchen, and that it's better to be able to stay in bed than pack up and go somewhere .. it felt kind of silly to move.
Not to mention I had food in the fridge that I hadn't finished yet. And they give us muffins and granola bars and oatmeal in the morning. So the value keeps adding up, and I hate my decision to leave.
I call the Motel 6 to try to cancel, and they tell me it would have to be done thru Expedia, which seemed torturous to me.
I was kind of caught in the middle of whether I wanted to enjoy my hour of drinking coffee and laying in bed or if I wanted to really try hard to reverse the reservation. The worst thing would be to be on the phone with Expedia for a while and then they tell me they can't cancel it anyways.
So I just take the L and get ready for Motel 6.
There are actually two Motel 6 locations here in Nashua, and I'm sorry to say I've stayed at both of them at this point. They're the same price so of course I picked the better one. The rooms seem new, the TV is high-def and very good, and the staff is accommodating and lovely.
There's a nice little forest sort of thing going on too.
It's really everything you could want in a Motel 6.
WiFi codes cost $2.99 extra (or $4.99 for the faster speed), but often if you're nice or lucky or ask for it in a way where it seems like you expect it to be free, they just give it to you. The kind gentleman at the desk today gave me two codes, one for each night.
That was important to me, because if I had to pay for them it cuts into the point of coming here.
There were some technical difficulties where he sent me to a room that wasn't cleaned yet. But then he sent me to a valid room, and it's bomb.
Microwave, fridge, and a fucking desk.
This is one of the premium rooms that normally should cost $8 extra or so. He may have hooked me up because of the mix-up of sending me to the wrong room originally. Either way, I feel really taken care of and am immediately happy I decided to come here.
This all goes to show that you never know where exactly things will lead, and you shouldn't really ever regret your decisions or waste energy dwelling on them.
The fridge came in handy too, because I was walking around with a head of lettuce and salad dressing, and now I don't have to wolf it down or reluctantly throw it out.
Tomorrow I plan to eat a salad and sit at my desk, and I'm pretty excited about it.
