There are times in our lives when we feel that our destiny (or, for non-believers, the string of events most of us call destiny) challenges us. Whenever a bold and unexpected opportunity to do something new presents itself, we have two opportunities:
1 embrace the chance in order to achieve new goals
2 decline the opportunity and keep on walking on the path that's familiar to us
While the second option gives you the benefit of remaining within your confort zone, it deprives you of the chance to discover your full potential.
If you are not a risk taker, it's ok to say thanks but no thanks to opportunities that will create instability in your life, pressure and reasons to concern.
However, if you are like most people somewhere in between a risk taker and a conformist, let me highlight some of the advantages you can gain by taking chances, trying new things and getting out of your confort zone.
You Meet New People
New circumstances mean new acquaintances which mean opportunities of all sorts. Once you decide to get out of your bubble and venture into the world, there's a lot of new and interesting people you could meet. Each new relationship could put you on a different track in life. Maybe the job offer you feel reluctant to accept is actually your chance to meet your future wife or business associate. Only by accepting new challenge you can build relationships that will shape your life.
You Gain Knowledge and Experience
Each obstacle you overcome or you bump into is a chance for you to learn something. Even if you don't always achieve the desired results, you still gain experience by trying out something new. In the end, it doesn't matter if you win the race or not, what matters is having the courage to enter the competition.
You Exceed Your Limits
All new challenges you accept are one step ahead in your personal growth. Not stepping put of your confort zone means stagnation. Especially in this fast paced world we're now living in, it's essential to be adaptable and always ready to change. Avoiding new opportunities means avoiding your fears and anxiety, but the only way to actually
overcome these mental obstacles is doing the things that cause us to feel them in the first place.
Change can be scary and it is in our nature to try to preserve what we have in order to survive. However, remember the old cliché:
It's better to regret the things you've done than those you haven't.
