International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designed by the United Nations to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first IYD was observed on 12 August, 2000.
In Nigeria today, the government has failed in its responsibility to the youths and left us to take the bull by the horn and carve a niche for ourselves. We are now tagged as "LAZY NIGERIAN YOUTHS".
A lot can be achieved if we all come together. With one mind, one heart and one spirit and stand together. There's so much we can achieve together as a team instead of hating anyway.
Here in my community Gowon Estate in Lagos, Nigeria, we set aside time and energy, as we volunteered to clear a portion of uncultivated land beside a school. This piece of land has for a long time been left untended.
I and a few other youths decided to take the responsibility of making the land neat and thereby avoiding it from further attempts to make it a dumpsite.
