Some problems such as bloating, acne and stomach upsets can prevent you from enjoying your visit to the beach and the time you spend with your family or friends. Therefore, avoid eating the following foods before going to the beach.
Dairy Products
A recent study found that regular consumption of dairy foods such as milk, skim milk, yoghurt and cheese is associated with the appearance of moderate to severe acne. That's why your afternoon habit of eating ice cream may be related to the acne you present on your face, chest and back. And because most dairy products have a lot of fat, they can make your stomach much digested, especially if you have lactose intolerance or a deficiency of the enzyme lactase that breaks down lactose into milk. If this happens, it may possibly lead to swelling of the abdomen due to the excess gases produced from uncooked sugar.
Smoothies with fruits
Yes, a cold fruit smoothie may look perfect for you to cool, but watch how often you consume it. These delicious and seemingly healthy drinks are surprisingly high in calories (some are over 600 calories, that is, almost half of what you are supposed to consume in one day), and can add up to 2.5 extra pounds in the region of your waist until the end of the summer. Nevertheless, you do not feel that you have to avoid them altogether. Fruit smoothies are a very good choice in a balanced diet that includes protein and "good" fats. For a nutritious and tasty smoothie with fruit, put in a blender a cup of strawberries, a banana, a handful of spinach, ice and a cup of almond milk.
Gluten-free foods
You may think that gluten-free foods are healthy choices, but many gluten-free foods are not healthy. Some processed foods, such as crackers and biscuits, may cause bloating because they contain unnecessary sugars that are very difficult for your digestive system to break down. These foods usually contain fewer fiber and protein than foods made with whole grain cereals, so if you have gluten intolerance and if you enjoy a sweet, choose something with whole grain cereals. In any case, processed foods will cause you a little bloating, as the additives and preservatives they contain are difficult to digest from the body. The best thing to do is to choose fresh or raw foods (such as sweet potatoes rather than pasta, brown rice instead of regular rice, etc.), so your body has the best performance.
Bread
Although sandwiches are an easy nutritional option for the beach, bread can be amazingly rich in salt that will make your body hold water and inflate you. Instead, try to wrap the sandwich stuffing (eg chicken, turkey, etc.) into lettuce leaves.
Protein bars
Protein bars are a very good choice for a quick dose of energy, but many of them contain soy protein. These bars are essentially free of carbohydrates and fat, but they are difficult to digest because almost all fiber is removed during processing. And when food is difficult to digest, it causes more bloating in the abdomen.
Alcohol
Cellulite, although primarily genetic, is exacerbated by fat-rich foods and drinks that cause dehydration, such as alcohol and carbonated beverages. Your skin is not so tight when it's dehydrated, so if you decide to pour it out a bit, make sure to accompany your drink with a glass of water.
Vegetables
You do not have to exclude all vegetables from your diet before going to the beach as we know vegetables play a crucial role in everyday healthy eating. But, vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts can cause bloating, as people trying to lose weight tend to over-eat because they are so low in calories. So when you go to the beach, for snacks, choose vegetables such as celery and carrots (which you can dive into humus) that are easy to digest.
Chips
Chips contain excessive amounts of salt which can cause water retention and inflate. Also, some types of chips - such as soy chips - may contain more unhealthy ingredients such as transfats, which are totally unnatural and have been shown to cause heart disease and to aggravate cellulite.
Low calorie foods and beverages
Because the label says "sugar-free" you do not hurry to buy them. Artificial sweeteners are stronger than actual sugar and can actually decrease the ability of the brain to recognize natural sugar, which can cause weight gain and increase the risk for type 2 diabetes. Also, the fact that the product does not contain sugar does not mean it does not contain sugar alcohols. Sugar alcohols (xylitol, mannitol and sorbitol), found in many "sugar-free" and low-calorie foods, are known to produce gas and cause bloating. It is much better to buy the normal choice of this food than to look for its low-calorie choice.
Foods containing MSG
Sodium glutamate (or MSG) is added to foods such as sausages, soups, salad dressings, and Chinese food. Although MSG is generally considered to be safe, it is good to avoid eating on the beach as it has been shown to cause bloating. Also, look at the list of ingredients for substances such as hydrolysed vegetable proteins, hydrolysed yeast, yeast extract and soy extracts as they contain MSG.
Have a great weekend
