I promised my wonderful followers yesterday that I was going to keep them informed about whatever happens in my interrogation with some begging kids, yesterday's story was really a heart touching one, ride with me as we go through today's own and at the end of the journey we will come to a basic conclusion.
The Second Kid
Me: Hello my friend, how are you today?
Kid: I am very fine Sir
Me: How was school today?
Kid: I don't go to school sir.
Me: But why don't you go to school.
Kid: My mummy said we do not have enough money to go to school so me and my sisters have to beg.
Me: But, that is ridiculous why will your mum say a thing like that?
Kid: I don't know.
Me: What does your Mum do for a living?
Kid: She sits on the high way to beg too.
Me: What about your father?
Kid: He use to come home sometimes to take us to the farm and he has 3 more wives aside my mother.
I was dumbfounded, I didn't even know what else to ask, I just kept staring at him before i finally asked;
Me: So where are the other wives?
Kid: We all live together in a small hut but each wife has different rooms.
Can I see your mother I asked, he said okay no problem without hesitation. I followed him to where his mother sat to beg admits other women, he ran to her and whispered something to her ear which made her move towards me.
I quickly greeted her, good afternoon Ma I said.
Kids mother: Yes, what do you want
Me: Sorry Ma, but I was just concerned about the well being of your little boy, and his inability to go to school can we talk about it.
Kid's Mother: What nonsense, how dare you question my decision on my son. Do you have one of your own?
Me: No ma
Kid's mother: So how do you think you will know how children should be trained. My culture does not believe in western education and as such we don't believe in one.
Our husband's go to farm and get married to two or three of us as wives as we in turn produce kids. So how I decide to live my life is not your business,do you even know how much I make daily from begging,I am sure you don't make such in a month with the white collar job that you do and with all the school you attended.
I am happy the way I am, so do not try to assist me in any way, I think you rather need me to assist you instead.
I was speechless and moved to my bones as I watched her walk out of my sight and I just walked back home too.
I have never felt so embarrassed and humiliated in my entire life before, I just concluded that was the end of the interview and I also decided not to give a beggar any money again except the first kid I interviewed.
