So, 25 days ago I said that I was going to be making some dietary and exercise changes as I was tired of being a typical middle aged overweight American. Well, so far I’m happy to report that it has been an EPIC FAIL.
OK, so who or what’s to blame? I suppose that one could list all of the usual suspects….
• Old habits are hard to break.
• I had a long day at work and just wanted to watch a little TV when I got home and of course eat some “comfort” food that made me feel better (at least it sure felt like it).
• I didn’t have time to prep my food the day before work and so I ate poorly that day.
• It was 5 dollar enchilada day and everyone at work was ordering out.
• Somebody brought donuts to work.
OK, what about on your days off?
• I was tired from work the day before and just wanted to sleep in.
• I went out with friends/family last night before and was a little bit hung over.
• I had a few beers and some more “comfort” food while watching the NBA playoff games at home every night (I think that I see a common theme appearing).
• Old habits are hard to break.
OK, so what are you going to do about it?
• Have a heart to heart talk with myself regarding priorities and whether I want to get healthy and stay healthy so that I can do all of the things that I want to do as I get older and in retirement. It’s either that or I can spend a lot of time in doctor’s offices, at the pharmacy, and at home whining about what if’s because I’ve developed some chronic illness from not taking care of myself in my younger/middle aged years.
• Stop drinking alcohol.
• Man up and have some will power and prep my food and exercise even if I don’t feel like it.
• Have another talk with myself regarding nothing comes easy in life…. well let me modify that to the good things don’t come easy in life. Sleeping in, eating fast food while at work, drinking beer/eating comfort foods/watching TV at night, not exercising, that’s all easy.
• Blog daily as that will help keep me accountable.
So today I started off with improving my morning dietary habits. First a drink that I haven’t made in a few years. I need to work on my proportions but here it is.
And then breakfast. First stripped some leaves off of a stem of spicy oregano from the "garden" (the "garden" is a post for another day).
Minced the oregano leaves and then into the frying pan with some chopped onion, olive oil, and Himalayan pink salt.
After sauteing for a minute or two on top go the greens.
Removed and in go 3 whole eggs.
Back come the greens and some cheeze.
Finished off with 1/2 an avacado and 4 quartered strawberries.
Total calorie count drink excluded 417.

Considering that everyone in my family says I'm a terrible cook I thought it turned out pretty good. Well thanks for following and I had better do a better job of it on this 2nd go around, stay tuned.
