It can be too comfortable to live in the status quo. I think the millions of years of evolution has ingrained in us the desire to keep the status quo, as it can be more friendly for survival, which is what our activities are basically guided by.
But there is a paradox. There is something inside of us, that doesn't let us settle. We always want more. We always want to expand. This inner conflict is so paradoxical.
Anyways, as history stands proof, things never stay the same. As a cliched saying goes, change is the only constant. The world keeps changing and our human civilisation itself keeps evolving.
But it doesn't happen overnight and it certainly doesn't happen easily. The status quo can be so comfortable for most that it takes a special kind of crazy to bring change in the world.
Here's To The Crazy Ones
Whenever I am talking about this topic, I am immediately reminded of Steve Jobs and his contributions to the computing industry. He was definitely one of the crazies and played a big role in the evolution of computers, smartphones, tablets, other services and more.
Another personality that I am reminded of quite often is Elon Musk. He had a dream of transitioning the world to electric cars before that was even discussed as a common topic. Sceptics laughed at him and some are even not sure he will be able to pull it off. Yet, day after day, he keeps proving them wrong.
He also has a dream of making humans multi-planetary. What could be a crazier goal than this? Again, many sceptics are sure he will fail. Yet, he keeps making tremendous progress on this front. Of course, we can't just turn Mars into Earth within this century, but a lot can be done to establish a permanent human presence there.
In the 90s, when Jeff Bezos had founded Amazon and had started selling books 'on the internet', many were quick to point out that it was pointless for people. That people would prefer to go to a physical store instead of buying something online! We all know what happened next. People sure have a non-existent imagination.
Even Einstein was met with a lot of criticism for his theories. People called them too "out there". A century later, his theories are helping us understand the universe more and more.
The point is, change is necessary. And it can only be brought about by people who are willing to shut down all naysayers and do it anyway. It's because of people like these that we have come so far and will venture further to unimaginable places. So, instead of ridiculing them, support them. Who knows what groundbreaking stuff they might create!
