Growing up, we all realise soon enough that life is not the rainbows and unicorns that we all thought it would be when we were little children. Life gives you a taste of what is to come, sooner or later and boy is that taste sour.
Remember when the biggest problem in life was to choose between the various flavours of ice-cream? Those were the real good days and we wanted to give that up to become “grown ups” so we could do all the cool stuff that grown ups do.
As we get older, we are faced with one obstacle after the other and responsibilities keep piling up. I am not saying that, that is a bad thing. It is the obstacles that help us grow and shape us into who we want to be but it can get overwhelming at times.
You feel the pressure especially when you just don’t know what to do and those are the times when you want your childhood back. Well, that’s not possible but what is possible, is, learning to continuously deal with any situation life throws at you. It is not that difficult if you think about it. There are only ever 3 things you can do.
1. Change It
Let me first ask you what a problem is. Isn’t it simply an undesired situation that randomly occurs from out of nowhere? An anomaly? Though we may not have the power over its appearance, we do have the power over its disappearance.
If you don’t like an undesirable situation, and if you have the power, just change it! We tend to underestimate ourselves a lot and often forget about our ability to overpower people and situations. I know I do!
Say, you are not happy with your life sucking job or your work place, find something you like better. Annoyed by a bad habit of your spouse? Ask them to change it.
The point is, you don’t have to keep suffering in the same situation day in and day out. You are in control of your life and if you believe you can change it, you will end up doing it. Just have a little courage.
2. Accept It
There are several situations where changing things is not an option. In those situations, the longer you stay in the denial mode, the longer you suffer.
The loss of a loved one is an example that comes to mind. Sooner or later you have to accept the fact that they are gone and you just have to move on in your life.
And not only that, we keep seeing changes in the world regularly and always have to adjust accordingly. Changes brought by technological advances are prime examples of that.
You can’t keep living in the past and with a narrow mind. So, it is better to accept things for how they are and just broaden your perspective a little. That will lift a lot of the burden from the mind. A simple acceptance can have that deep of an impact.
3. Leave It
Before you take this option in life, be absolutely sure that you can neither change your situation nor accept it. People are really quick to just leave their problems these days and that in itself has become a major problem for the world.
However, there can arise times in life when it is best to just leave the demons behind instead of facing them head on or trying to accept them. This can put you on a totally different path in life and that is completely ok!
If you are in a toxic relationship where you cannot change the other person for the better and cannot accept what that is doing to you, the best option is to leave. If you are in a bad neighbourhood, it is best tot leave.
Similarly, in lots of other scenarios, if you feel that there is just no solution, maybe that’s because it’s time for you to head into a different direction. Life has a tricky way of putting you on the right path.
