Here in Italy it's very common to have a parent or a relative who had an old collection of stamp and also my father have a fantastic collection of them. He started to collect stamps while he was working in a paper mill. He was lucky, because in the paper mill arrived (to be destroyed) many letters, postal cards and many paper things, so when she saw a nice stamp he added it to his collection. He has many different stamps from all the world and since I was a child I like them, because they had nice illustrations and they made me dream to be in countries far from mine!
It's fantastic to think they came from places very far from here and they were used to say something to people in other place! Love letters, a simple postal card to say "I think of you", the news about the families and other thing that during old tie you could say just sending a paper letters.
Sure, now we use the email and so we need to have the stamps just few times, but I have to say that it's always nice to open the letterbox and to watch inside of it a nice hand wrote letter ^_^
Some days ago, a friend of mine gave me some old stamps of his father. He said to me I can use them to create something, because those stamps are not rare and so they have just a very low value. I admit I have some problems to use them in a craft/art project, because some of them are really little piece of art!
I decided to give some of them to my father to add to his collection and to use just some stamps for some project (I have no idea, at now).
Today I start to read some information about some of them, just to know more about the story behind the stamp and I have to say that it's really interesting. Maybe in the next days I'll wrote something more about my favorite stamps ^_^
See ya soon and steem on!
Silvia
