Hello Steemit Friends,
Bonjour? Hola? Hello? There is a certain feeling of pride, class, and achievement that comes with speaking and understanding a foreign language, don't you think? However, in as much as the fruits of knowing another language are sweet, the process of learning can be rather sour without the right techniques. In that, it could be time-consuming hence frustrating causing you to give up altogether.
This articleโs aim is to ensure that that does not happen by enlightening you on a few approaches to creatively learning any language. Shall we begin?
Get a pen pal
Rather than having to move to an exotically new destination to learn a whole new language with a disadvantage of excessive expenses and cultural shock. Get a pen pal. Who is a pen pal? Not literally mean a mail box style one. In the recent past, a pen pal was someone usually in another country that you frequently wrote letters to. Nowadays, the process has been modernized to social sites that have a platform for language exchange. Finding a pen pal that natively speaks the language you are learning will make studying interesting and easier. It would be preferable to pick an age-mate as you are bound to have similar interests hence more relatable.
Watch movies
You heard me right, make some popcorns, get comfortable and press play. Only this time you will not be watching your favorite Netflix shows but movies or TV shows in the language you are learning. A big part of learning a language has to do with listening, so listen! You could even take it a notch higher by subscribing to a cable channel or YouTube channel in that same language. Over time you will begin to notice you understand so much more other than 'fin' means the end. Believe me, so many of my girlfriends actually learnt korean amazingly through the series they are head over heels addicted to!. (Noted: Korean dramas are widely popular in the south east Asian region)
Listen to music
I believe you saw this coming, didnโt you? I will not advise you to stop listening to your favorite genre of music, I will, however, ask you to find songs in the same genre but in different languages. Do you love blues and want to learn Chinese? Find a Chinese bluesโ album. As mentioned earlier, the key to learning is in listening.
Play games
How about you change the language settings on your Xbox or on whichever game you love to play to German or Spanish? You might make a few errors at first maybe even lose a few games but in the process, you are learning that ๏ฟฝrechtโ means right and not left. Additionally, explore your phoneโs play store or that of your computerโs for word games in the language you are learning.
Talk to yourself
Yes it sounds weird but it's 2018 and nobody judges, if they do then they aren't in trend. Standing in front of a mirror and compliment yourself in Italian, look out the window and make a comment about the day in French. Whatever the language, constantly speak it not just hear it. Alternatively, you could translate your favorite songs to the language you are studying then sing them in the shower. At the end of the day, you are helping your mind retain the information you learn.
These tips coupled with language lessons will have you become bilingual within no time. In case you need some motivation, keep in mind the benefits of bilingualism such as increases the pool of job opportunities for you, enhances your memory and multitasking skills, reduces any chances of dementia et cetera. Bonne chance, Buena Suerte, Good luck.
I hope you enjoy This post !!
