It has been raining all day to day, which is not such a bad thing for someone who suffers from the spring allergies. The plan would have been to go to the city and eat Munkki (Finnish donuts) and get some fairy floss from the marketplace.
Vappu (May Day) is a public holiday as it is in many countries for Labour day but more importantly for us, it was the day I asked her to be my wife and she said yes. It was about the most nervous I have been in my life even though I knew she was going to accept the proposal, perhaps it is because of the commitment involved. I am not afraid of commitments but, they are just that so in my head, they carry weight.
Even without the rain we wouldn't have made it to the city anyway since my wife got food poisoning on Saturday ans spent Sunday (her birthday) and most of Monday in bed. She is still pretty weak. So instead, we have been chilling out at home playing games with our daughter. Things not going according to schedules is part of the commitment too.
This is one of my favourite photos of us and it was shot at distance through a crowd by my good friend @adigitalife and was taken at a summer dancing event in 2011 if I remember correctly. Some of you might know this but she and I met dancing salsa together and a lot of my memories of how we came to be a couple centre around a dance floor. She is a great dancer and makes me feel like I have two feet that belong to someone or something else. It is always handy to have someone better than you to help you at a skill and she never fails to remind me that she is better than me. I can't even argue the point.
Perhaps this summer we will get a chance to dance at the Summer salsa parties where we are able to take our daughter and maybe, I will get some video of us. It is always weird seeing us dance together though as it is obvious who is holding who back but, I would also like our daughter to see what her parents got up to when they were a bit younger. Our daughter loves to dance and sing and I am pretty sure that at some point we will put her into some lessons. At the moment she is still happy dancing with us in the kitchen though which is something I really enjoy too.
All of these little things matter to a relationship and perhaps, they are the only things that do. Like any couple, we face many challenges both big and small but at the end of the day, we are there for each other and when we must, we will dance to whatever music happens to be playing. I am just lucky she is a good enough dancer to improvise and take the lead when I trip over myself.
Find your rhythm and live life dancing. She is my rhythm, the dance continues.
