Is it Any Good? Yes.
It feels like most people come to Noumea these days on a cruise ship. It's my second time in this wonderful town and I must confess that big white boats have brought me here each time. One of the joys of docking in Noumea, is that your not far away from the beautiful town square, Place des Cocotiers.
The square, or more accurately the big rectangle, is two blocks due east of the Cruise Ship Terminal (click on the map marker above). If you do nothing else in Noumea, take a walk to the square and soak in the local pace of life. There is free WiFi to take the edge off being at sea and not on Instagram along with a beautiful fountain, local sculptures, and beautiful gardens.
I usually spend an hour here with a coffee and paper before hunting for nearby french delights. The square is safe for all travelers during the day and you can simply watch life go by.
