Part II coming at ya!
Thanks to all who read part I of my trip to Colorado.
So after our adventures in the Flatirons, we prepared for Saturday. Waking up we packed the car, and then wandered around other parts of Denver until we wanted to drive to the mountain Air BnB in Breckenridge, Coloarado, about 2-hours west of Denver.
We hit Target to re-supply on food, then a dispensary that they were all about, called Smoking Joe's (I think). They all got their designated edibles, tea's, papers etc. and the nwe ventured to get Chris a ski jacket as he didn't have one.
Once these tasks were done, we hit the road. The roads were not great, it was dark, slippery and the elevation was REALLY fucking Eric up. But we made it. The Air BnB was nothing special (thus no picture) but it did the job. Saturday night we found a local Pho place and enjoyed it while preparing for Sunday skiing on Breckenridge.
Sunday rolled around and Eric was sick as a dog, he believed it to be altitude sickness, but he was in bad shape, not able to keep anything down from either end, and was fatigued and dehydrated. The guys took care of him while I hit the slopes (at his request).
)
I skiied the majority of the day and did pretty well. Making it to peak's 7 and 8. I haven't skiied in a year or so, and was just making sure my mechanics were right before venturing on later in the week to more difficult trails.
I've never been one for taking pictures while I ski, so bear with me
Monday rolled around and Eric was feeling a little better. We got Chris to join and we hit the mountains after stopping on a fantastic place called Daylight Donuts. Honestly, this was the perfect morning spot. Complete with breakfast sandwiches, great donuts, amazing bear-claws and a cool atmosphere. Highly recommend it.
Hitting the slopes we started off at Peak 8 so Chris and Eric could get into the motions. Chris struggled, his form was bad and his senses were not great. He struggled to cope with the people around him going fast while he was going slow, and eventually quit out of frustration. Eric and I then took a trip over to Peak 6 where we got a few runs in before the mountain closed. We made it to the top an elevation of 12,302 ft. before heading down. It was a great run, a little icy, but nearly empty which allowed us to open up and really fly down the mountain.
Eric at Peak 6
Your boy at Peak 6. Don't worry I only removed my helmet for the picture.
Tuesday was probably the best - and worst - day. The whole crew was sick. Joe flew out Monday night for work on Tuesday (poor guy), and Eric and Chris came down with it BAD. Chris went to the nearby Urgent Care where he was diagnosed with a viral infection. It makes sense that Eric had the same thing. So with the two of them out for the count, it left me to either sit in the infection zone (the Air BnB) or get out and ski. I chose the latter. I skiied all day Tuesday and made it over to Peak 9 where I made a day out of living on Centennial, Crystal and DoubleJack.
I'm in my zone when I'm skiing on my won, I had my music bumping in my helmet, food and snacks in my bag and was loving every second of it.
Tuesday wrapped up and Wednesday we flew back into Philly where we all recouped and recovered.
Sorry for the lack of pictures but thanks for reading!
