People enjoy the company of confident individuals. We like to follow those we admire, and are often star struck by excellent leaders. A leader who is confident, yet humble will select the best team out of duty and will leave their ego at the table.
Humility is important, as is confidence. The two aspects we seek in a leader are often at odds with one another. A hot-headed leader may be more of a managerial placeholder who has "boss" or "manager" as their title and wears their airs of pride on their sleeve. They are in it for themselves and not the greater good of the company.
A good leader actively seeks out pieces to the organizational puzzle and builds a team. If a leader assumes they are the brightest bulb and the most important player on the team, they may make a team that is weaker. Their ego will dictate the overall performance of the team as they select less capable members they can actively control.
Pride should be tempered in a leader. Push your ego down and focus on what the team needs to be effective and not feeding your own ego.
