Liquid Feedback is an online e-democracy open source software. It enables the use of Liquid Democracy system, also called delegative democracy. This system enables members to vote directly on matters or delegate the responsibility of their vote to other voters. Very beautifully Liquid Feedback creates a blend of direct democracy as well as representative democracy in its decision-making processes. This very intelligent way of decision making may become more popular in the years to come but it is still in its infancy. The world is hungry for better systems for holding the democratic process. There are not many directions to improve our democracy process and by far the model Liquid Feedback uses is more balanced than any.
The software was first developed in Germany in most popularly has been used by many organizations as well as some political parties. Most famously it has been used by the Pirate Party who would like to use direct democracy and implement it into nations across the Earth. In today's world, it's clear that the majority for the world's representative democracies are full of pitfalls. Implementing systems that embraces a much more balanced representation through liquid democracy is being called forth.
With some saying that direct democracy is not practical for everybody to vote on every decision and the fact that representative democracy does not reflect the people's values strongly enough when elected representatives vote on proposals, liquid democracy may be considered the middle way. In Buddhist philosophy, they the Middle Way is the path of balance in one's life with the balance of nature. Perhaps that too is the truth for liquid democratic decision-making processes.
Liquid Feedback offers us a way to practice delegative democracy and take the experience to the 21st century. Benefits such as not needing physical voting processes moving it onto an e-democracy platform makes the process easier and more user-friendly for people to participate. Thinking forward as we further technologically evolved and advanced as a society we must truly grow with the times. Together united we can bring liquid democracy and systems such as Liquid Feedback to the masses.
