I just hurried to my secretary's desk to ask her to try again. I didn't have time to wait for a replacement, but the power of the company would ensure it took only hours.
"Kim, I'm one of the top bosses at work, I need a new secretary immediately. I can't be without one another minute. Our revolution is underway and I need to get the paperwork done. Please let me know," I demanded, hoping I hadn't pushed her too far.
"Mr. Newling, I'm very sorry. All the desiring phone calls I took were urgent, too. Some of those are from people wanting fictitious personnel, but I'm going through them now. I'm seeing if I can find your type person. Most of the extremely good ones were taken, so I'm checking the top 1 percent type of people now. Please be patient," she responded, seeing I was eager.
"Who in the human race made these new people who want to help me? They don't seem to be very good at it. The last one wanted me to do some court testimony. Typical new person, coming in with no skills," I shouted at her.
"Sir, these new people were completed by two universities, and our whole society is making new ones to help with shortages. If a corporation wants to hire a new person, the job description is what the human being or android will do for them. If the corporation gives them things to do, the new person does those things. Sir, even in our company, with some of the best new people, we're not having an optimum rate of work because of the lack of skilled people to train them," she explained, speaking much louder than usual.
"Good now, Kay. Good. Now, send the papers over by messenger. Sorry I spoke to you so loudly. I'm so excited about this product line, I'm in a frenzy," I replied, now that she was speaking in my normal tone of voice. I was happy because she heard me, but deeply frustrated at the same time.
"Sir, I'm going to call the CEO of the company to move the documents. He said that I was hired back when the 'new people' started coming out," she said, giving a little smile.
"Great. I hope he sleeps with you. Tell him I said hello," I replied, watching her go to the lift and then turning back to my office.
All at once I felt some kind of cold wind coming from the door of my window. My heart started racing and I said, "Kim, who's at the door?"
"They're carrying a huge cage. I'd better call security," she replied, seeing the two men with a cage.
"The bull. Ah, that's the best of the bunch. Bring the bull in. No, no, I mean right in here."
They put the cage in my office doorway, with all the person inside watching and waiting. As they started opening the metal back, my heart was thumping. My palms started sweating and my stomach dropped. I soon felt the draft coming through the door and realized my belly was dripping with sweat on the floor.
"Sir, here he is. Yes, he's real. We're going back to the other animals now," one of the men said as he stepped into the cage to let the bull out. It wasn't so much as a real bull, but one of the new people that looked like a bull. The one who wore a hoody stepped out of the cage and toward me and then said to the other person, "come on, let's go."
"Ah, Mr. Newling, I hope you will like him. I've named him David. He's actually the best representative of this line," the person called out to me as they both quickly left the room.
My heart began to slow down and I stood there a bit waiting for it to stop. The bull looked at me and was making little noises. I walked over and started petting him and soon my calmness came back on.
"David, you're an excellent bull. You're the finest in your line and I'm the best in my line. You're going to serve me well. You're my first robotic partner. Let's shake on reaching the top."
He stood still and opened his paw up for me to shake.
"Good, David. I've always loved these kinds of bulls. You just raised some money on the stock exchange. You officially have a record," I said, remembering to bring up something factual.
"Sir, can I show you? I have this button that I can press and then you can pump in more money and it'll be recognized as twenty million dollars. Then you can go longer," David said as we turned to leave my office.
"Mr. Newling, you want something more. I can give you something for you to play with more. I'm good at math. I just learned that the world is going to be larger within a decade. There's going to be villages and cities everywhere. There will be about six hundred thousand people running wild in the world for each robot and computer to step over, eat, or help. It's good for me to split myself up. I'm getting some more people to work for me. I'm making my first hotel like people who'll help you in the water countries. I'm making some more guys like myself to help you around the plant," I told him, as we both made our way out the door.
"Thank you, David. You've just made my day. Let's go see some of your new people."
We went down the halls and saw some people working.
