HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVING A GREAT WEEK
I am so happy right now with the results we got back from the Vets about Mika.
We had Mika at the Vets yesterday as she needed an indepth heart scan, we got home around 5ish then had to wait for the results. They said we might hear soon or within the next couple of days, I couldn't wait so phoned today to ask if there was any news, the receptionist said yes we are on the list for the Vet to call, they aren't allowed to give results so we had to wait a little longer. A couple of hours later the Vet called to say the heart scan had come back clear, she has a healthy heart. They do have an idea what it is we just need to have a blood test next week where she will spend 4 hours in the Vets, they are sure it's Cushings disease, now I went straight to Google to search it which I shouldn't have as Dr Google isn't always correct. Dr Google said that if your dog has reached the over drinking and peeing alot then it's time to consider saying goodbye but the Vet said that once the tests come back they can give medication then Mika will get better and have a better life. Not sure how long she has left but after getting the results saying all her vitals are fine then she can carry on with living.

CUSHINGS DISEASE
In Vets terms this is hypercortisolism, this is a pituitary disorder that happens when the body produces far to much Cortisol. Cortisol is a stress related hormone. This can shorten a dogs life but medication can improve symptoms. Your dog can start to feel pain depending on age and depending on how the progression of the disease. Mika is going through the early stages of this disease e.g excessive panting, excessive drinking and excessive peeing, the other stages are weight gain or loss, hair loss, muscle wastage plus a potbellied stomach. I'm starting to think maybe Mika was moving into to stage 2 as her stomach was rounded and looks full. She will have to be on steroids for the rest of her life, rather that than lose her. This means everything to us. Losing her would have been heartbreaking 💔 especially after losing Geordie.
We thought It was down to the heatwave at first then we thought we were going to lose her. If we had listened to the first Vet she wouldn't be here, always get a second opinion or push for more tests as some Vets just don't have the heart once our furbabies reach a certain age. Ohh and again don't go searching on Dr Google as some information is way out of date.
