This might be good news to Liverpool FC fans: Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has handed in a transfer request to Southampton in a bid to leave the club. This is according to reports in the Guardian and the BBC.
In a statement, he said he is ambitious and wants to play European football, and said he felt "insulted" by suggestions that he was the one that refused to train with the rest of the Southampton team.
In June Liverpool announced they were ending pursuit of the former Celtic defender after Southampton threatened to report them to the FA over their unauthorised approach for the player.
Hopefully, Liverpool can end up getting their man in this transfer window. If he does sign for Liverpool and they can keep Phillipe Coutinho, this could be a very good season.
Fingers crossed!
