I climbed Mt Pulag in Benguet as part of a group. Trek from the rangers' camp started a little past midnight. The goal was to get to summit or at least to one of the peaks and catch the sunrise. If one is lucky, there might even be a sea of clouds.
When I show photos like this to my City Mice friends, the most I get are polite nods and tepid "wow"s. I can guess what'a behind the lukewarm responses. The sun rises daily. It would be more spectacular, or spectacularly awful, if it did not. Clouds look pretty much cloud-like whether one is looking up or looking down. But there are details not captured in my photo that the image nevertheless invokes: being giddy from the climb (the synergistic effects of adrenaline, low oxygen, and sleep deprivation), the brisk air, and the surprising freedom of not having a telco signal.
