Steemians, today I want to show you how you can use your kit lens to do macro photography.
As we all know macro lenses come at a higher cost. But you can get in macro photography for free with your kit lens. Now this doesn't give you the quality the macro lens would, but its still remarkable for being free.
First of all just to clarify. With kit lens you cannot go closer than 25cm as stated on the lens or else it won't focus.
To do a macro photography with kit lens you have to turn it around. I would recommend reverse ring adapter as it doesn't cost much. However you don't need it if you mount your lens on your own somehow.
Before you reverse the lens for macro photography you have to change your aperture to some high value. You will have to experiment for the best result. If you do not do this step and leave your aperture wide open you will have extremely shallow depth of field. However with higher aperture values you will also need better illumination on your macro subject.
To lock aperture at a certain value, you set the value you would like and then press aperture preview button. While holding the button you unmount the lens of the camera.
Now you can mount the lens other way around and start with your macro photography.
Here are some macro photos that I took with canon 500d and kit lens.
If you do try this, lens won't be mounted as firmly as in right position. I already dropped mine due to sudden movement but luckily didn't break it. If you do this you are responsible for your own equipment.
