The collision of Final Fantasy and Magic The Gathering has sent ripples through both gaming communities and the wallet of every collector and player worldwide. Let’s talk about why this crossover is so popular and how its soaring demand has reshaped prices across the board.
This isn’t just another Universes Beyond set. Final Fantasy brings sixteen mainline games, iconic heroes (Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa, Vivi...) and fan-favorite locations to MTG’s multiverse. It’s beloved nostalgia with strategic gameplay, and it’s captured the hearts and minds of many players including me! It's also a crossover release that is unique because of it's playable in Standard, not just Limited or Commander like many recent releases.
This popularity comes at a cost. Officially, the set’s MSRP falls close to other Universes Beyond products around $7 per play booster and $38 per collector booster, but retailers routinely price Booster Boxes around $200, Collector Boxes at $599 or more. I was lucky enough to snag a Commander Deck at MSRP which is close to $70, but I just saw even these are jumping to $100+.
I'm not shelling out the cash for a collector booster pack, but the crown for the most expensive pull from the set goes to the serialized Golden Chocobo, which can only be pulled from that collector booster.Only 77 exist in the world—each one individually numbered and serialized. If you look on Ebay one listed on for around $200,000, but the highest priced sale I have hear of is around $50,000. I think these prices are insane but I guess With just 77 copies in existence, each with its own serial number, owning one is like holding a numbered 1/1.
All I know is I'm excited to play my commander deck I got and we will have to see what prices do over the next month since I do want to ge t a booster box to upgrade my deck.
