Hi everyone, back here again with my attempt on a second post! Just did my first ever blogpost in my life exactly a week ago, do check it out if you're interested (Intro: Journey Into the Unknown)
Hoping that I can keep up with posting often and be more involved in this space so as to meet more of you awesome people! Pretty stoked about the support I got from my first post and truly appreciate every single one of you that is helping to make this a fun filled journey! 😁
Been trying to think of a content that I could use for my second blogpost but thought that maybe I will just share a little about my weekly weekend routine.
On a typical weekend, I would go over to my grandmother's house early in the morning. She would have already prepared breakfast, which we would enjoy together before getting started on our weekly mahjong session. My grandmother has been playing mahjong for many years and is an expert at the game!
For any readers out there that are not familiar with what mahjong is. It is a popular game that originated in China and is enjoyed by people all over the world. It is a game of skill, strategy, and luck that requires players to use tiles to form various combinations. Here is a link for a more in-depth explanation / guide on the game itself which I shall not dive into over here. How To Play Mahjong: A Beginner's Guide
We first started this weekly routine since the pandemic as we were pretty much restricted to home visits only in Singapore during a period of time. My grandmother is 90 years old this year and has mobility issues after a fall sometime back in year 2018, making it difficult for her to engage in other activities 😭 Therefore, mahjong is one of the few activities that she can still enjoy, and it brings her a lot of joy to share this experience with me.
For my grandmother, playing mahjong is more than just a game; it is a way to stay mentally active and engaged. As she has aged, she has had to adapt to certain physical limitations, but her mind remains sharp. Playing mahjong helps her to exercise her mind and keep her cognitive abilities sharp. Additionally, it is a way for her to socialize with her family and friends, which is important for her mental and emotional well-being.
As her grandson, I feel privileged to be able to spend time with her in this way. These mahjong sessions allow me to connect with my grandmother in a way that I cannot do through other activities. I have learned so much from her through our conversations during these sessions, and I cherish the memories that we have created each week.
In conclusion, spending a weekend playing mahjong with my grandmother is a delightful experience. It is not just about playing a game, but also about bonding with someone special to me. I treasure the time we spend together and the memories we create. I definitely pray that we could continue this tradition for years to come. 🙏
Hope you guys have the opportunity to spend quality bonding time with your love ones as well. Thank you for reading and hope to share more the next time! 😁
