My daughter, Nikki, sporting a diaper I made from the free Celtic Cloth pattern in size medium, and photographed by my friend Kari Wright, back in 2009.
More than 7 days ago @mrssignificant Steemed a challenge. (I lost track of time and am sorry I didn't post sooner. But better late than never, right??)
What can we do to make a change to make the world a cleaner, greener place?
My family uses cloth napkins at most meals. Its the 3 year old's job to pass them out and then collect them after the meal and deposit in the hamper. So I just wash and reuse them. I do not buy paper napkins from the store anymore. (Though we do still use paper towels for some jobs.)
I have a Swiffer sweeper to clean floors with. Instead of buying the disposable pads made for the Swiffer, I use a microfiber towel. Its very easy to have my mop water in the sink, get the cloth wet, wring it out, and use the same as one would use a Swiffer pad.
I also have a Swiffer duster, and instead of using the disposables, I made a reusable duster from upcycled fleece. I found a free sewing pattern on Pinterest to make one. It took more time to get my sewing supplies out than it did to make it!
This next item might be a bit TMI for some, but hey, its worth it. During "that time of the month", instead of disposable napkins or tampons, I have a Diva Cup that makes no waste each month.
A big one in our house when our kids were babies was cloth diapers!! I purchased just a handful, but I made dozens. These were all sewn by me. A Nykibaby one size fits all on smallest setting, a DarlingDiapersUnlimited newborn, and a LaDiDa small cover, with a small fitted inside.
These are just a few things I do to try to cut down on waste so I can make a change! How about you??
