As part of the #newbiegames initiative, and to support the great work by the #newbieresteemday team, I have put my thinking cap on to try and put a new twist into an old game to see if I can come up with a simple and fun way for us to connect with each other and the Steemian community.
I have to say that the response has been much greater than I expected (we have 16 entries in total) and I'd like to thank everyone who put an entry in, and those that missed out I hope to run this competition again or something similar because it has been so much fun and I haven't even got to the draw or the winner announcement yet. In fact I am also working on another game concept as we speak, so if you keep supporting #newbiegames and #newbieresteemday I am sure there will be some good prizes for it :)
Some interesting facts
I have put all the entries so far into an Excel spreadsheet so I can do some quick analysis of the way people have picked the names on their bingo cards and this is what it looks like:
Basically any cells that are not highlighted in red are actually unique values, which means that most of the names there have been picked more than once and it is a pretty good coverage of the #newbiegames followers list with only 17 of the 93 names that did not represented on the bingo cards (or that they are not a follower of @newbiegames). So I think this game definitely helped to get the community engaged and show that we are quite connected, which is great to see!
So I guess you want to know which name has been mentioned the most on the bingo cards right? So what I did was a tally of all the occurrences of the names in the bingo cards and it looks something like this:
All you need to know is that the number of times a name comes up in the bingo cards is on the far right column, and the more counts there are the greener the cell is (just the conditional formatting rule I applied). Excluding the names that were not on the bingo cards, 54 out of 93 names (so over 50%) were mentioned at least twice on the cards, and of course some names were on people's mind more than others but there was one person that was on just about everyone's mind. To save you doing all the counting, the two names close to the top of the list and with the most counts are:
@beeyou with 12 (out of 16 entries, so 75% of the cards)
@davemccoy with 10 (out 16 entries)
Just for fun I also tried to see how random the process for picking out names for the card was, in particular whether people filled in the card alphabetically or if any of the usernames was more likely to appear in a particular position and luckily there isn't enough entries to come up with anything meaningful.
Some change(s) to the rules
As state in the rules of the game from the previous post:
https://steemit.com/makesteemitgreat-again/@fibrefox/newbiegames-bingo-a-new-way-to-make-connections-and-have-fun
Drawing of the names
When all the entries are in, I will create a post for the first game titled "Steemit Bingo Game (#)" and will randomly pick a name out of the list of followers of the @newbiegames acount each day as an update to the post until someone manages to 'BINGO' and notifies me in the comments section.
UPDATE:
I heard some people mention that it will be hard to keep up with all the posts daily, so instead of picking names out each day, I will draw all the names at once and since we will have everyone's entry already it will be easy to determine the winner(s) in one go.
The way I will do this is to get the list of followers of the @newbiegames account and generate a random number for each name:
This is just an example, not the actual draw!
And then I will pick names starting from the one with the highest value all the way down to the lowest value, and fill in each bingo card until there is one or more winner, so if the first name drawn is davemccoy (for example) then it will look like this:
When one or more players have connected four names together in a row, column or diagonal I will stop and declare the winner(s).
Prize (now increased by 5SBD)
The winner(s) of the game will share in the SBD for the post and any additional donations or offers of prizes that I will gratefully accept. This will be transferred to their account and posted in the comments section to ensure transparency and fairness of the competition.
Thanks to @simplymike for his generous donation of 5SBD the prize pool!
Also, extra prize that goes to the most creative bingo card!
