A U.S. district court judge has recently struck down the CDC eviction moratorium, that was expected to expire this June 2021, ruling that the mandate exceeded the authority of the secretary of health and human services established under the Public Health Services Act.
They went too far.
Even though under this moratorium it meant that thousands of people would be able to stay in their homes even if they didn't pay rent.
As a result of the hold on paying rent though, this meant that after months many would be thousands of dollars behind in rent payments, with a wave of evictions expected to take place once those CDC restrictions were lifted.
The Justice Department now allegedly plans on appealing that ruling along with seeking an emergency order to place this ruling on hold so that millions of people don't start to panic about being kicked out.
Millions of Americans are months behind on rent right now, some estimates say it might be around 20 per cent.
Once those bans on evictions are lifted many people might be facing a serious problem if they didn't think that at some point the rent might come due.
