McConnell says a Republican Senate would continue supporting Ukraine. This was my belief, but nice to get it confirmed explicitly. The Senate has largely been onboard with Ukraine aid on both sides of the aisle.
Despite McCarthy's comments on Ukraine aid I don't think he actually has the votes among House Republicans to stop Ukraine aid either. I think he's just signalling to the MAGA wing. But there are actually many House Republicans that voted with Democrats for Ukraine aid previously. The anti-Ukraine Republican wing is a minority.
If the worst case scenario happens and House Republicans stop Ukraine aid next year, there are some options available to continue aid to Ukraine- namely the Lend-Lease Act- but they'd be less ideal.
I’ll also point out that Mitch is a helluva lot better and more serious politician than Kevin McCarthy, so this isn’t really a surprise. Not to say I love Mitch McConnell lol
