It was happening on 13 September, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City with the theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. It was a memorable Gala over the history coz it has been held in the middle of the pandemic of Covid-19, but it couldn’t stop them to show their creativity by the fantastic custome to the public. We can see it by Kim Kardashian in a full black shirt from head to toe, a ‘finally’ grown woman Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X looks like Lady Gaga, the never failed Kendal Jenner, and there’s a lot of them. But, before I give my opinion about what was goin’ on at the event, let’s get to know about this year’s theme. So the 2021 theme is In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, refer to vogue.com, Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute, felt it was time to reexamine American identity and fashion, especially as it has changed over the last several years due to both political and social justice movements. “I’ve been really impressed by American designers’ responses to the social and political climate, particularly around issues of body inclusivity and gender fluidity, and I’m just finding their work very, very self-reflective, I really do believe that American fashion is undergoing a renaissance. I think young designers, in particular, are at the vanguard of discussions about diversity and inclusion, as well as sustainability and transparency, much more so than their European counterparts, maybe with the exception of the English designers”. So it means, they have to come up with an American touch, then are they provide that? In random choice to talk, here is my OKE!
Billie Eilish changed her persona
(MIKE COPPOLA)
As we know that young-cool girl Billie Eilish always shown like rockstar style and swag with shirt, light green hair, and sneakers. But at the Gala, she changed like a very nowadays of Marilyn Monroe. Her persona really different from who she was, even it’s such fast transition from an artist. She was channeling Marilyn Monroe in Oscar de la Renta, and for me it’s totally American, blonde hair, big ball gown, and Monroe? Of course, everybody knows she came from America.
Same not same of Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X moves confidently wearing Versace. He showed the same entry style that once looked the same when Lady Gaga entered the red carpet at the 2019 Met Gala. When Lil Nas X first entered wearing a satin gold cape grande, then when the cape was opened it looked like golden armor, he appeared very dazzling like a knight. After that, he looked very exotic and stunning wearing a glamorous gold bodysuit.
Fashionably very safety Kim Kardashian
(MIKE COPPOLA)
Not Kim Kardashian if she can't steal the show. If at last year's Gala Show she appeared like a heavenly fairy who was soaked in a bath, this time she appeared as if she was campaigning for safety from the pandemic, with a black dress that was wrapped from head to toe, and a long dangling pigtail, Balenciaga is a fashion support for her. I don't know what Kardashian's intention and purpose is about!?, but quoting from her Instagram page, she says, "What's more American than a T-shirt head to toe". Well, there's some truth, except that not all Americans cover their faces.
The Never Failed Kendal Jenner
(MIKE COPPOLA)
Jenner wore a sheer jeweled Givenchy dress for the night's Gala, the dress so amazing, in my opinion for the Kim’s sister is... “What’s more American than a Hollywood glamorous”. Yess... she beat it, that’s why I said that “The Never Failed Kendal Jenner”, coz she is! Every year of Gala, she's always stunning, shining, shimmering, splendid. 😃
Call him by his name Timothee Chalamet
(SEAN ZANNI)
Woohoo... the charming boy Timothee is in the house yoo! I have to say that his style is so futuristic, modern bust still classy, I think this style could be a pioneer for fashion trends ahead. Chalamet who is one of the co-chairs of this year’s Gala wore a tuxedo by Haider Ackermann, Ricky Owens turtleneck, and white classic by Chuck Taylors Converses. As usual, all the stars get their Gala outfit from only one designer, but since you call him by his name, Chalamet can do anything!
It’s only Rose
(THEO WARGO)
The Blackpink K-Pop star chose Saint Laurent on her first Met Gala of this year. This is a little bit confusing, I mean the designer is on the theme, but her look just so simple. Quite safe for something big like Met Gala, I think coz this is a very phenomenal annual event, so you have to wear a phenomenal dress. Maybe I understand, what’s more bigger than her phenomenal girl band “Blackpink”, so she made it simple.
So after all, this year’s Gala for me is so NICE! But the absence of Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Blake Lively, Lana Del Rey, Ariana Grande, and other artists and celebrities who should be at the event makes this event quite calm. Because in the previous year their appearance was always awaited by everyone, plus their performance was always dazzling and stunning.
And what do you think about the Gala this year? 😉
