Microsoft launched Windows 10 S today which challenges Google's Chrome operating system. Windows 10 S targets low end hardware and the education market which already utilizes many cheaper tablets and other low end, low cost, devices. Windows chief Terry Myerson states, "Everything that runs on Windows 10 S is downloaded from the Windows Store." The desktop applications that normally run on a Windows 10 Pro version will have to be specifically packaged through the Windows Store.
Introducing the new Surface Pro with Windows 10 S
Mr. Myerson, while onstage introducing the new product, explained the ability to support peripherals and devices just like regular Windows 10. Myerson also noted that Microsoft has "streamlined" the default wallpaper for Windows 10 S. He also stated, "Windows 10 S will run any browser in the Windows Store," hinting that Google Chrome will run if Google packages Chrome in the Windows Store. The new education PC's will start at only $189 and will have a free subscription to the new Minecraft so kids can also learn computer language coding.

The new Windows 10 S will only take about 15 seconds from power on to be ready for a student. The new operating system can also be fully loaded from a USB flash drive and can be customized with specific education content and applications. If a traditional desktop app will be required, Microsoft states these apps will be allowed to run for a small fee.
