If you don't know about @aggroed's Minnow Support Project, or the associated Discord Channel, PALnet, click here (cheat sheet here)and read about this amazing support project that's already helped hundreds of minnows get their hard work recognized in its first week!
Now that you have joined PALnet, you suddenly have hundreds of other people to network and share your posts with. This is an invaluable tool at your disposal, but it will only get you so far. You first need the audience so your posts can get exposure, but you must also engage the audience to ensure they keep coming back for more. This is where #peer-review
comes in.
If you're somewhat of a perfectionist (like me), or if you're just wanting to put your best foot forward, #peer-review is the place to go to get critique and tips to help make sure you continually improve and grow.
To make the most of your visit, please follow these guidelines:
- Before Posting- check out these tips from @sidwrites.
- Ask For Specific Guidance. If you show up and only post a link without saying anything, you may be mistaken as post-and-run promotion spam and get overlooked. Please try to be specific about what you want reviewed, i.e. spelling, formatting, length, etc.
- Be Patient. We're starting off with a small number of volunteers, all with lives of their own. If your post doesn't get answered right away, consider reviewing other posts in the chat while you wait. It never hurts to get more perspective.
- Consider a Bounty. By placing a bounty for your review, not only will your post get more attention, it will let everyone know you are serious about feedback, and you're not just looking for upvotes. Not only that, it will provide incentive to help grow our available volunteers, which will in turn help the community as a whole. As an example, the bounty could range anywhere from 0.1 SBD for a simple review of a short post, to 1 SBD for an in-depth review of a long post.
- Post One Link at a Time. This is not a place to promote, there are several channels dedicated to that. Please wait for your post to be reviewed before posting a second link.
- Don't Take it Personally. Flame wars will not be tolerated. You will be asking people to be critical of your work, so try to use it as an opportunity to grow.
Tips for Reviewers:
- Anyone Can Review. While we do have experienced volunteers to help, don't let that stop you from making your own review on a post that catches your eye.
- Begin with the Positive. After reading the post, start your review with what you liked about it. Give the author a good idea of their strengths. This can be more helpful than finding what's wrong with the post.
- Take Your Time. It is often helpful to read the post twice before beginning your review. It is equally as important to focus on the function and the aesthetic of the post, so try to read into the author's intentions.
- Be Serious. This isn't the place to take pot shots at your rival, so if you decide to review, please do so with the best intentions.
Be on the lookout for our awesome volunteers who are making this possible:
