Back in 2006 I started messing with Adsense. Not much luck the first 3 years. I didn't even make it to the 100$ payout threshold. Still, I learned some basics, which helped me monetize a website that I had built for a potential client. My client wasn't interested in that website (and that company and person are now completely and utterly bankrupt) so I ended up playing with Adsense on a topical website.
3 figures a month
Suddenly I made the threshold. Every month. Not much money still. but enough to peak my interest. I tried multiplying my effort. By 70. With shitty content. When I say shitty, I mean shitty. Total garbage. But back in 2010 this worked pretty well and I was consistently making 3 figures a month. Without really grasping what was going on.
What I know now
If you really want to make serious money online, you can. And I'm happy to get you there. I have many friends and acquaintances who told me this, but less than a handful have actually made it to the first Adsense threshold. Honestly only two. It involves two parts:
- get started
- keep doing it
So, how to start?
- Pick a topic you can write about consistently. At least 1 article per week.
- English is highly competitive, if you speak a big European language such as Dutch, German, French, Spanish or Italian, this may be a better option
- Find a good domain name, ideally
.comor a good TLD such as.nl.de.esetc. - If you're a medium tech geek, set up your OWN WordPress installation with e.g. Bluehost or Dreamhost. If you can host it yourself, this can be an option. If you're a complete tech noob https://wordpress.com can be a temporary solution.
