Many of us try to make changes and build new habits in our lives but struggle. This struggle can trip us up and discourage us. It doesn’t have to be this way. In this post, we’ll get into some specific tactics that help us to take charge.
1. Focus on one thing at a time.
We live in an age of constant distractions. And we tend to change from one thing to the other, trying to give everything an equal attention, but end up losing along the way.
What if we focus on one thing instead? What if we put in all those diversified efforts into one thing and quit the multitasking and juggling? Wouldn't that be less stressful and a more effective use of our time?
Totally focus on that one thing (or person) in front of you until you are done with it, then, and only then move over to what is next.
2. Do your best.
Don't fall into the trap of always going for the least, because you can do better. Always put in performances you will be proud of, even if no one is watching.
3. Cultivating the habit of saying no.
Saying no can be difficult for those of us who love pleasing others. However taking charge of your life, means getting comfortable with saying no in some compelling situations. Otherwise we will always run the race of getting ourselves too thin.
4. Be honest.
Don't lie to yourself let happy things make you happy and sad things make you sad.
Don't try to suppress your thought and feelings, don't ignore them. Even though you don't want to think about it, or you don't know how to resolve it. It's always best to always best to acknowledge it, than to lie to yourself and pretend as if you're not hearing what your heart is telling you.
“Well if you are true to yourself you are going to be true to everyone else”-John Wooden
When you're honest to people, you’ll find that people will do the same for you. This way you’ll form deeper and more meaningful relationships much faster.
5. Be accountable.
Taking charge of our lives means we're accountable for our actions. We can't hide behind excuses, we can't keep on blaming others for our mistakes, we have to stand up and be counted.
Realizing that no one is going to bear our cross for us, will make us to behave more responsible.
Conclusion:
People like to see the impossible about our ideas, and they will tell us “that's not the way it's done”, “you can’t”, “no” and other such mantras of doom.
Just because someone says it can’t be done, doesn’t necessarily mean it can’t be done.
Often times it's their fears, beliefs that are being spoken out loud. They believe they can't because they have told themselves that. But you are not them, so you don't have to put that to heart.
OK if I had told you two years ago that smartphones could recognize faces, would you have believed me? If I had told you that you could make a living from a social media platform, would you have believed me?
No! But today don't they exist? They do, because somebody went ahead with the project. Even when it had been proven by friends...to be 99% impossible. They still went ahead and made use of the remaining 1%.
