Life is too damn short to waste. But like nearly everyone else, I often fall into procrastination and getting distracted with things that don’t help me get closer to achieving my goals in life.
Before I explain the acronym I created, which I now try to recite to myself daily and live by, I want to explain what my main goals are in order of importance because it's important to always know what your goals are:
- Be the best father and husband I possibly can
- Provide for my family now and in the future
- Enjoy my family, friends, and life
They are very simple goals, but as someone who is considered to be a workaholic and easily distracted, I need to remind myself of these goals and what I should be doing on a daily basis, which is where the acronym I created comes into play and has helped me stay focused.
MTMOEM
MTMOEM stands for Make The Most Of Every Moment. It’s a reminder to focus on what really matters in my life, even if that’s not making a few extra dollars or taking a few hours to watch a show on Netflix I really want to see. Everyone needs to have outlets, hobbies, and things that aren't just focused on achieving goals, but this phrase helps me stay on the track I want to be on.
Let’s say I’m working (I have the rare ability to work for myself and set my own schedule) and I just can’t focus on work. To make the most of that moment, I switch to something else to help me accomplish one of my goals – like go for a walk with my son (which helps me take a tiny step towards my goal of being the best father I can be) or do a few chores to help ease the load of tasks that fall to my wife.
