Today i'll be writing about a song that reminds me of one or both of my parents. There are a couple of songs that reminds me of both of my parents, but today being Mother's Day, I've decided to write about the one that reminds me of my mum.
This one is very easy, I don't think that there's a song that reminds me more of my mum than 'Sweet Mother'. The song was done way back in Pidgin English by Prince Nico Mbarga, a Nigerian- Cameroonian highlife musician. It was a big hit back in the day thanks to its danceable beats, and still is. If you want to make an African woman smile (especially the ones that understand pidgin english) , just play sweet mother.
'Sweet Mother' it is the perfect tribute to mothers for all their sacrifices for the welfare of their children. The lyrics of the song actually says it all, as it outlines the various selfless duties that a mother performs everyday. There's no way I'll hear this song and not think of my mum.
Here is 'Sweet Mother' lyrics video
You will really appreciate the value of this song if you have a little knowledge of pidgin english. The song may not be the most rhythmic, popular and well produced song about mothers, but I don't believe that there is any other song that better celebrates mother's love.
Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and mother-figures out there!
