Devo - Devo Corporate Anthem
Devo are an amazing band,
super weird and original, especially considering the time period. They were writing insane, strange, angular AND electronic stuff LONG before any other bands. The main force behind the song writing is Mark Mothersbaugh, who went on to write all kinds of famous stuff, particularly theme songs for Nickelodeon and other cartoons. Devo is known for the single from the early '80s, Whip It, but the stuff before that is ALL really amazing. They influenced SO many other bands, from hardcore/punk bands to alt rock 10 years after, and even metal bands love Devo. The name DEVO is short for devolution, and is the general theme of the band: a dystopian future of corporate worship, and devolved people embracing their most base instincts... The movie Idiocracy seems to be pretty influenced by, if not indirectly, the tao of Devo.
Listen to Devo Devo Corporate Anthem here.
This song is from their album
from 1979, Duty Now For the Future, which is sort of the mid point between them becoming really an electronic/new wave band, and the weird artsy punk stuff o the '70s. This song is the opener on the album, and really sets the tone. I love the timbre of it, it's so 50s movie scifi, especially with the lofi synth horn melody that comes in. This song is an instrumental, so I encourage you to check out their other stuff after, it's all awesome.
Hope you like it, thanks for checking out my posts!
