This song popped up in my YouTube timeline, just now.
I remember the songs of Lykke Li, as being part of my brother's music playlist - years ago - and I'm pretty sure I liked her sound.
I was curious about this 2013 song, that I'd never heard of. So I decided to play the video. As a David Lynch fan - it immediately reminded me of his 1997 film Lost Highway, which is one of my very favorite movies. In case you've never seen it, you will be in for a treat.
The reason this video reminds me of that movie is not necessarily its title, but the film's intro. You can check it out here. It starts out with a blast, with a song by David Bowie ( I'm Deranged )
Back to the song by Lykke Li
Apparently, this song was written by Lynch in 2013 and is part of his second studio album. The Swedish Born Canadian Lykke Li added her beautiful, dreamy voice to it and came up with the ideas for the video. I have no idea if she was familiar with Lost Highway and if that film inspired her for this music video.
Lost Highway (1997) is a totally different film ( a Lynchian thriller ) that offers a completely different vibe than this music video. In fact, I'm Waiting Here comes closer to the mood and style of Lynch's Twin Peaks.
I couldn't help but thinking of Lynch's collaboration with Julee Cruise who has a voice somewhat similar to Lykke Li. This 2013 song has the same dream like quality that Julee Cruise and Lynch combined came up with in the early 90s when collaborating on the score for Twin Peaks.
Alright, I will leave you now with this beautiful song and meditative video. In case you're interested in its lyrics ( dreamt up by David Lynch), here you go:
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
Can’t we fall, never fulfill me, dear
Your new love will only remind you, dear
Your deepest high'll never be same as when
We made love where the horizon ends
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
We made love under a dark moon
I’ve burned a lot of bridges
Some castles were made of sand
Only then
When alone, look at the sky, my dear
I am not every fallen star
Make a wish ever eternally
So we can love until infinity
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
I’m waiting here
P.S. Months ago I posted on David Lynch's (musical) break up with Julee Cruise. She worked on the - recent - third season of Twin Peaks ( that I still have to watch ) and was, apparently, extremely dissatisfied with the music editing of Lynch. More info here:
