My favourite is called LINE. It was first released in Japan in 2011 and became extremely popular very quickly. They have users all over the world, but it seems to be more popular in Asia. I started using it because everyone here in Thailand makes use of it, I continue using it because of its reliability and huge amount of features and apps that are compatible with it. Give it a go, it's awesome! It's available on nearly all platforms.
