So I thought when I retired from the corporate world in May 2016, that the only thing I was going to put my heart and soul into, was our little bnb, Lily's Cottage, but then along came Steemit, introduced to me by my son @deanoza, who could have been a whale by now had he not been sidetracked by other projects, as he was one of the early steemians, not active for some time now!
Back to my Steemit journey, my love for writing was rekindled, and I now find myself totally addicted to this wonderful platform. I've met some amazing people, some make me laugh, some touch my heart and many others teach me new stuff every day.
Sadly by the time I saw that @honeydue challenged me to enter @rocking-dave's awesome #my2017top5 contest, I realised I missed the deadline and my heart just sank!
However, I decided to still take the trip down memory lane, as I believe it is such a travesty of justice that our older posts all kind of end up on the Steemit scrap heap as very few are interested in reading anything older than 7 days!
So I hope my followers and those who have become friends, enjoy my 2017 top 5 posts.
1. Hi Steemit This is Lizelle from the laid back city of Durban
On 13 July 2017 I blindly wrote my intro post, straight from the heart, having done no research on the platform and with no strategy in mind. That post made a whopping SBD 0.28, LOL, but I am the eternal optimist and was super excited to be part of this community. This post lies close to my heart as it is all about what I am and my hopes and dreams for the future.

2. Sprouts or Fragrant Curry from the tiny green Mung Bean
I love cooking and gardening so this post combined both those loves and shows the versatility of the little mung bean. Sprouting was quite the in-thing in the 70s, and somehow Steemit triggered that memory, so now we have a regular supply of healthy fresh sprouts growing in the kitchen window sill.
This was among my early posts to be seen by the ocd team, and I was over the moon that someone had actually read it.
I think this was when I realised that I could do some food steeming as well!
3. One chicken three ways
If my memory serves me right, this was when Mama (Bear) first entered the Steemit world. I really enjoyed putting this post together as I could write a little story around Mama missing her fledglings and share her magical method of turning one roast chicken into three meals. Hopefully some steemians tried this budget beater, I remember waking up the morning after posting it, and I'd actually made a decent amount of SBD so that was a bonus!
4. My autumn years
This one is another blog that I wrote from the heart, and reading it now again I am truly thankful that I pursued my dream of running my own little bnb as it fulfills my and hubby's life in so many aspects; we both love people, enjoy hosting, and are meeting the most wonderful and interesting people from near and far plus supplementing our income now that the corporate world discarded us :) The fact that this dream was realised in my autumn years, makes me feel immensely blessed.
5. The Highs and Lows of living with Diabetes
A subject very close to me, as this condition has affected hubby for just on 59 years, and having lived with him since 1974, I know exactly just how scary it is when a diabetic has a low sugar reaction, both for the diabetic and the people around him/her. I hoped that this post would bring about awareness of the dangers of high and low sugar levels, as people do not know the signs nor how to help them.

So a big thank you to @honeydue for the challenge, sorry I did not make it in time as I got side-tracked with my little bnb, Steemit Sandwiches and WalkWithMe’s, but I really have enjoyed this trip down my Steemit memory lane.
Thank you @rocking-dave for the sentiment behind this awesome contest, sorry I missed the boat but good luck to all the entrants :)
