Dana is a self-proclaimed Multipotentialite.
Being a Multipotentialite means having multiple interests, contrary to Specialists. For 20 years, she considered Multipotentiality as a curse. The question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” became the very source of her doubts, fears, and insecurities. Her life changed when she decided to embrace what she is. She found her wings when she embraced the multiple versions of herself.
I am Dana and this archive is dedicated to my Multipotentialite journey!
I vow to never be classified into a singular identity because that is just not me. There is no other purpose in creating this small nook in the internet other than to take all of you into my uncommon journey in this lifetime. There is no greater joy but to be able to share with all of you the joys, the sorrows, the wins, and of course, the challenges as they come and go. Let's grow and learn together!
My Beginnings
I hailed from the beautiful island of Leyte in the Philippines. I lived there going back and forth my lola's house in the mountains and our humble home at the center of Hilongos, Leyte. Therefore, you can say that I am a Hilongosnon and a Leyteña. That was my permanent address up until I was 15 years old.
At 16, I moved to the big city of Cebu to study college. I graduated my BS Computer Science degree from the University of the Philippines Cebu. Hello to my fellow Iskos and Iskas! #STP
The Multiple Versions of Myself
What can you expect to read from this page? Of course, the adventures my multipotentialite self will bring us through! At the start of this introduction, I promised you that I will bring you all to my multipotentialite journey, and so I will! This page will feature all of the shinanigans the 7 versions of myself will offer! Yes, you read that right! In the moment, I have 7 versions of myself!
#1 The Software Engineer
Right after I graduated, I directly dived into Software Engineering as I started working in a local Software Company in Cebu City. Right now, I am currently based in Shizuoka, Japan as I work as a Firmware Engineer in an american company here specializing in Diagnostics machines for complex biomedical testing.
Despite not loving my job, I have grown to like the world of programming and of technology as a whole. Therefore, expect blogs from me that will feature programming languages, operating systems, security management, programming, and many more this woman in tech can offer.
#2 The Millenial Entrepreneur
Growing up from a very poor family and being the breadwinner, I vowed to save my family from poverty. Ever since I started working at the tender age of 20, I've been supporting 3 generations of my family. However, I realized that no matter how hard I work or no matter where I work, in the Philippines or abroad, I will never be able to give my family the lifestyle that they deserve. So when I was 25, I turned to business because ultimately, business is key.
Of course, I started with traditional businesses. My first business was farming. When it only generated very small profit, I tried doing a hardware business but it also failed, especially during the pandemic. Now, I founded an international online business with my sister; The DnA Empire, that is not only surviving the pandemic, but is thriving during these trying times. We just received our first ever national business award last September as the Top 46 business growth in the Philippines!
I will be taking you to my business journey as well by sharing my ups and downs in business here in this profile!
#3 The Music Enthusiast
Music is a constant part of my life. Performing arts would’ve been my chosen career if I was privileged enough. I grew up singing in schools, in Singing Contests, and performing wherever I get the chance. I know a little bit of guitar, ukelele, and piano but my best musical skill is vocals. I dream of getting a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and becoming a professional Musician someday. You will be able to follow my musical journey in Soundcloud, Youtube, Tiktok, and of course here in PeakD as you do this journey with me!
#4 The Writer
A Tarot Reader once told me that in one of my previous lifetimes, I was a revolutionary writer and I believe that. Writing always came very natural to me. I've been writing novels since I was in 6th grade!
Apart from maintaining this little blog in the Internet, I dream of publishing my own books someday. I dream of telling stories, influencing people, and creating a positive impact through my written words.
#5 The Glossophile
Glossophilia is the love of language and its structures. As a Glossophile, I insert the rigorous process of studying languages in my busy schedule. I will always be in awe at how languages are developed, spoken, written, and read. These excite me as much as everything else that I am fond of.
I currently read, write, and speak 4 languagesー Bisaya, Tagalog, English, and Japanese. Next to learn on my list are Waray, Hangul, Spanish, and Mandarin. I aim to learn at least 1 new language every 2 years. In this PeakD profile, I definitely will be blabbering about awesome stuff about languages that I have and am currently learning!
#6 The Traveller
The same as the majority of the people in the world, I have also been bitten by the Travel Bug.
I have been to 7 countriesー The Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan. Aside from my goal of traveling to at least 1 new country yearly, I hope to complete #Project81PH, too, because of course, I am a Filipina! I will be releasing all of my travel diaries here in PeakD, too! Watch out for it!
#7 The Advocate
Growing up as one of the underprivileged, I woke up to many societal issues at a very young age, being a victim of them more often than not. With that, I vowed to always be a voice to those who cannot speak, eyes to those who cannot see, and a fist to those who cannot fight. I am a passionate advocate of the following causes:
Health and Wellness
When I started working, I suffered depression and I became aware that it was lifestyle-inflicted. Ever since then, I started being an advocate for Health and Wellness. I even made a business out of it through the The DnA Empire!
The Environment
You may know it or not but let me repeat it here, we are in a great ecological crisis! If we want to make sure the next generation survives in the next century, we have to make sure we save our planet. I do my best to continue living a Sustainable Lifestyle. I founded my own page for Environmental Activism named Open Letters for the Environment. I also started a social enterprise called Sustainability Hero that is also anchored from my advocacy for the Environment.
Education
I was able to finish my college education because someone was kind enough to sponsor me. I was a scholar. I believe that Education is the ultimate solution to povertyー as an example of it myself. I am the Co-founder and the Overall Project Manager of Project Batang Hilongosnon, which is a non-profit organization based in Hilongos, Leyte, Philippines aiming to help the students and teachers of our hometown to survive the “new normal” of the academic years to come.
Human Rights
Apart from constantly fighting for Human Rights in the streets, in my blogs, and in my social media postings, I was a former Secretary General of Amnesty International Nagoya Multicultural Group. Together with my passionate team, we create projects to further mobilize protection of Human Rights, especially in the Philippines and in Japan.
Expect to hear a lot about my advocacies here in my PeakD postings. I would like to share my passion for them to you as well so that we can make the world a better place together!
Capping it all up with my very varied Hobbies!
I distinguish hobbies as part of my identity as well but they don't identify me. I only do them because they fuel my 7 identities above and of course because they're so much fun! Looking forward to enjoy and discuss about these hobbies with you as well!
Do you share these hobbies, too? Comment below!
Thank you for finishing the read!
You're awesome because you gave this small page your time! Thank you! I very much appreciate it. At this point, you're probably thinking; "Does this girl really has the time to do all of these things?" I don't! That's why one of my hobbies is to self-actualize so that I can maneuver all around these interests despite the limited time! 😅 But one thing is sure, it is exciting and fun being a Multipotentialite and I am very excited to be enjoying, discussing, and sharing a whole lifetime with all of you! Welcome to a Multipotentialite's journey!
