Hello everyone, my name is Kaycee Ports!
Nope, that’s not my real name.
I would like to consider myself a writer. Stanley Martin Lieber had “Stan Lee”. Joanne Rowling had “J.K. Rowling”. Samuel Clemens had “Mark Twain”.
A pen name. Anyone could dream, right? Mine is Kaycee Ports.
How I entered HIVE
Since this is an intro post, allow me first to tell you how I came about here.
I have been a freelance writer since 2016, intermittently. Sometime early this month, I was hired by a fellow Filipino blogger to provide blog articles for his WordPress site, Ahon Pinas. I wrote a blog article for him about Elon Musk’s SpaceX mission flight. I enjoyed writing the given topic so much and to my delight, I shared the post on my Facebook and Twitter accounts.
A colleague from the same university of mine, @ybanezkim26, took notice and DM’ed me on Twitter. Oh yes, I’ve heard of HIVE and it’s mainly because of him. It’s hard to miss the passion every time he talks about HIVE. So, I was quite flattered when he said I could have a place here (I hope so), judging from what he read from that blog post. He sent me an invite and I shoved my hesitations away so now I’m here.
Who am I?
I am a chemical engineer by profession. I graduated from the University of San Carlos in Cebu, Philippines. I passed the licensure exam in May 2017, then had my first job in Metro Manila in January 2018 as an environmental specialist for a government-accredited environmental service provider. Now, I specialize as an industrial hygienist.
To put it simply, I go to commercial and industrial establishments (anywhere that has employees in it), monitor/inspect their workplace environment conditions, produce technical reports and send it to certain government bodies and the client. I provide technical expertise about occupational safety and health.
Oh, I also work as a freelance writer on the side. I’m currently learning the process of treating it as a business instead of merely a sideline ;)
Why I joined PeakD
Society may stereotype introverts to be shy, but… okay yes, I am shy 😆 I won’t even deny it. Some of my friends would strongly disagree, but introverts could be loud with the right circle of friends. Point is, I don’t self-promote on my social media accounts.
But at the start of this year, I decided that my theme for 2020 would be #Bolder2020, with or without COVID-19. So, this is me holding myself accountable. Time to woman up and put myself out there.
I have been officially journaling since 2019. Let me just share to you my first journal entry for 2020
What’s in it for you?
I don’t label myself as an expert, only that I’ve helped clients before in writing their About Me pages. What should you write in an About Me page? I was a smartass back then and thought, “Duh, of course, it should be about me!”. But is it? Seems self-serving, right?
Then, I realized it doesn’t end with just about myself. See the bigger picture and ask, what is it about me that could give a benefit to my readers?
What unique aspect of mine could I offer to Peakd? I say, my experiences.
I wish to share my experiences and interact with like-minded people. Even more interesting if I get to interact with others from the “opposition”. As long as it’s constructive, I’d love to discuss!
What experiences, you might ask? Here are some topics I could share with my readers:
Thoughts on Personal Development
Ever since 2018, I have kept a planner to handle adulting in an organized way. Well, it was messy then. It wasn’t only during 2019 that I managed to keep a journal and enjoyed it! Well, I made it enjoyable by putting habit trackers to get creative and be accountable, at the same time.
This is how 2020 looks for me, colorized 😁
Per this year’s theme #Bolder2020, I took one step further by sharing some of my (wholesome) thoughts here. An upgrade from my journal where I’m the only one who could see it. I’ve been reading a lot of personal development books lately from my favorite authors. It would be nice to share some of my learnings with you. I’m no expert. But then again, I guess no one really is, when it comes to personal development.
Becoming the best version of yourself requires you to continuously edit your beliefs, and to upgrade and expand your identity

Travels
I love traveling.
To mountain peaks. To sand beaches. To foreign cultures.
Sometimes alone. Most of the time, with my friends and family.
My last trip was during my 25th birthday, January 25. Chinese New Year. When the COVID-19 distribution program was launched 😆 It was supposed to be a jumpstart to my #Bolder2020. F*ck your plans, COVID-19 said 😫
Anyway, I went to Japan (Osaka and Kyoto) to celebrate the start of my quarter-life by watching the Queen concert. That trip was all sorts of fun and a nightmare. Tell you what, how about that for my next post? Teaser: I lost my bag with my passport in it on the train 8 hours before our flight going back to Manila. I wish I was kidding.

Book & Movie Reviews
When my good friend @thegaillery shared with me this creative personality test, I was very pleased to find out that I was a DREAMER. The description was spot on with how I think of my identity. One particular line amused me so much:
You’re naturally drawn to express your inner world through literary pursuits, music, and the visual arts.
WELL, THANK YOU!
That, my friends, is the reason why I’m a huge fangirl!
I fangirl over just about everyone who I aspire to be. It always starts when I stumble upon their works - movies, books, and music. I can get crazy passionate over any creative form of art that I love.
My purpose in giving book and/or movie reviews here is not to get technical. It’s to simply relate to the medium’s events that spoke most to me and how it impacted me or changed my perspective. Perhaps we could give each other some recommendations :D
So, that’s about it for now.
If you’re still reading up to this point, wow thank you! I think we’ll get along just fine. Feel free to leave comments below. I’m excited to make friends and connect with Hivers :)
As a closing note, allow me to share the “Optimist Creed”. I picked on this when I read Tony Robbins’ Awaken The Giant Within from last month. Since then, not a day goes by without reading this aloud to remind me that we must act according to our version of Code of Conduct.
