At the southwestern end of the city, right at the entrance of the gorge of Aoos, is the large single-arched bridge of Konitsa, which was built in 1870-71 by a workshop of 50 craftsmen led by master builder Ziogas Frontzos from Pyrsogianni.
The bridge was built with donations from the inhabitants of the city and mainly from Gianniotis Ioannis Loulis, who donated about half of the 120,000 grosis that its construction cost.
In the same place, a wooden bridge had been built earlier, in 1823, but it could not withstand the rush of the river and was destroyed very soon.
The current stone bridge has dimensions of 36 meters opening and 20 meters high, while under its arch can be seen the small bell that meant to warn passers-by not to cross the bridge when there was a strong wind from the inside of the ravine, when there was a risk get carried away and fall.
