Three blind men tried to understand what is an elephant. First man touched his snout..."Oh, an elephant is like a snake." The second man touched his leg, "No, an elephant is like a tree trunk." The third man touched his side , "No, no, you are both wrong an elephant is like a wall."
When we see the whole picture then we have a clear understanding. The Vedas are ancient scriptures and they deal with every aspect of civilized human life, from medicine, to military arts, to psychology, the astrology, chemistry, ritual performances, you name it. It's in the Veda. People very often get caught up in a specific portion of the Vedas and lose site of the whole picture.
Study of the Vedas ultimately is for the purpose of transcendence not simply to make a temporary life more comfortable.
