To avoid the very windy conditions at the crest of the mountain this tree grows along the ground and rocks.
Its stem bark looks just like the stem and branches of any other tree and it's probably just as old, but the oddness is that it grows hugging the ground. What's also unusual is the old leaves simply wither up but do not fall off.
In more sheltered spaces they do gain some vertical height.
