This cactus is the Old Man of the Mountain, Oreocereus trollii, and this one really is an old man. It's previous owner says it was at least over 35 years old. These are very slow growing and this one is around 45cm (or 18") tall. Local cactus enthusiasts tell me that in our climate they only grow around 1cm per year.
This species is native to Bolivia and Argentina where it grows in the Andes mountain range. In fact another common name is the Old Man of the Andes.
The last shot shows a small specimen of the same cactus species. You can also see this small one in the third shot right in front of the big pot.
