Wars can be prevented. War heroes are worshipped, of course, but has anyone ever thought of the trauma every soldier who survives war has to go through for the remaining life? Peace is better than war and when man has seen so many tech advances, leaders should attempt to establish peace rather than support warring countries.
Natural disasters such as tsunamis cannot be prevented but people can invest money in developing warning systems to predict such events and help evacuate people. There are videos compiled by 'National Geographic' on the horrors of the 2004 tsunami. The video shows footage of people trying to shoot videos, some trying to run away from the water, some still standing on the beaches when the waves come and some holding on to debris. The videos from private cameras were compiled and it also shows interviews of survivors who were children back then. These videos are a reminder of how insignificant man is and yet man is the only being that tries to destroy the planet and disturb the ecological balance. Is it not time to forget differences and work for the betterment of the planet and help those who are needy?
People now talk of Karma and it is now such a common word that it is beyond the boundaries of religion. Whether or not one believes in it, it is true that whatever one does, it has a result. So, it is better to start being mindful of what one thinks, speaks, or acts. Peace starts at home. If the house is peaceful, the neighborhood will soon be, the state and country and therefore the whole planet. So, whenever the mind feels agitated, take time off from gadgets and think of positive stuff or just walk among the trees and you will feel a difference.
Disasters that are man-made can be prevented. For example, wars, religious conflicts, destruction of forests, and such. Man-made disasters not only disrupt the earth but also upset the entire ecological system. For example, a man cuts a tree and out falls three nests with small baby birds that may or may not survive. Many other animals are also harmed because this tree was felled. A tree provides shade and shelter and sometimes fruits and other medicinal stuff. So, deforestation is fatal and will not help at all. It takes a lot of years for a tree to grow and it takes only less than an hour to cut down a tree. So, if possible, spare trees and plant more saplings.
Ways to help preserve the planet
- plant tree saplings
- stop pollution
- reuse and recycle
- stop wasting money on useless stuff - reduces garbage
- try to promote community cleaning and participate in such volunteer work
- donate unused cycles to the community
- Pool cars and vehicles
- buy stuff in bulk rather than in small packages
- dispose of waste properly
- offer help to the elderly who might need help in disposing of waste or other chores
There are many ways in which we can better our own lives and also be a help to society.
