The Project Runway Season 18 Finale is here! All four of our remaining designers are headed to fashion week and we are going to unveil our season winner. I can't wait to see the collections walk down the runway at New York Fashion Week!
Let's jump straight to the winner, Geoffrey! I loved Geoffrey all season long and was so happy to see him win. His collection was off the wall and pushed boundaries. I loved seeing a few male models walk down the runway and I really wanted try on a few on those outfits. The unique materials he used, lots of metal, was something that elevate his collection. His show stopper was something I'd never seen before, a huge, round, metal jacket. The silhouette was incredible and could have been the moment that put him over the top. The last minute edits, and forgetting the face spikes for the model, were big improvements from the preview.
I think Nancy had the next best collection today. She was pushing a message of inclusivity that really came through in the collection and was one of the rare times I've actually seen what a designer wanted out of the collection. The crowd really responded to a few of her pieces. I did feel like their were a few misses overall. I really felt like Nancy was a breath of fresh air all season long and was delighted to see her do so well this season.
Next up we have Victoria. It really felt like she was trying to sell her collection. I don't think this collection really reflected how talented Victoria is and it was a a shame that her best piece is the one she whipped together at the last minute. It might have been the best piece of the entire show. If Victoria had based her collection off that piece, I think she would have been a front runner to win. She really is very talented but this collection missed the mark. To top everything off Victoria largely ignored the judges previous critiques and left in lots of her branding in her collection. A unfortunate way for Victoria to end her season.
Finally we have Sergio. His collection was dated and costumey. Sergio really needed to get out of his head and just make a collection of great pieces. He's talented and can sew incredible garments, there was no reason for him to send down a wild west costume party down the runway. It didn't feel innovative, didn't feel unique and I thought it was the weakest runway of the finale.
I really enjoyed that wider variety of models this season and getting to see the designers have a bigger hand in who walked down the runway in their outfits. I really enjoyed this season and can't wait for the next!
That's it for our season. I'll be back next season (all stars maybe?) and hope you'll all join me.
