"Net Neutrality"
Net Neutrality, it has been around for a long time but recently it is in great danger. If you don't know what Net Neutrality is.
Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers must treat all data on the Internet the same, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication. For instance, under these principles, internet service providers are unable to intentionally block, slow down or charge money for specific websites and online content.
One thing you're probably gonna hear about internet now is that there is enormous amount of data consumed without compensation and this is true. Companies like Netflix stream movies for a price but applications like Kodi do it for free, no money goes to the studios who stream the movie and the bandwidth is just used for the sake of it.
If net neutrality would be dead, companies would shut free streaming sites instantly but don't worry this could allow Comcast like companies to offer you it's own really nice streaming service that now costs money. You wouldn't be able to do anything.
There are business and companies that use a lot of bandwidth right now and they pay nothing for that. When net neutrality goes away these companies have to pay extra for what they use which is a nice idea if you agree with paying. :p
Let's say I'm a large organization that uses a ton of bandwidth every month, I would have to pay for all that which as a company that makes billions of dollars anyway doesn't seem right. I wouldn't be able to wait for the day that I keep all the money I make. Other than that I will receive high speed internet if I will pay for, of course.
ISP's will also get the ability to slow whichever site they want to at which ever time. What if my ISP launches competitor to YouTube but unlike YouTube it is not free, you have to pay for watching videos. ISP could slow the YouTube way down just so everyone uses their website, in which you have to pay which again doesn't seem right .
These will only limit the sites we can visit, it's like our ISP is choosing the sites for us. See there's site everywhere with questionable content that some may find offensive and it might actually be. I wouldn't mind if website containing child porn will shut down but will it stop there or will political view be something deemed questionable, will political decision social justice. How far will this go? Well... it's a surprise. Good isn't it?
Along with that free internet access will probably go away, if you don't know there are internet plans for them who can afford internet which is nice but it would be better if they didn't exist instead visiting certain sites will cost more. Imagine Steemit you will have to pay 50 bucks just to have fast enough internet to visit it.
Why Net Neutrality Will Be Gone?
There is a group called FCC which is working on basically eliminating net neutrality and get rid of all those protections and laws which keeps internet free and fair. The reason behind this is little shaky, simply ISP wants to get paid more.
