After the passing of her better half, Evvie of Ravensroost returns home disenthralled by her grievous marriage and resolved to cut herself off from society. In any case, when a rough Bask warrior obscures her entryway, Evvie's reality is flipped around. Imprudently, she abandons everything for a cold, outside country where she has no companions or associations—other than her Bask warrior—and where everybody believes she's a witch, a heritage she's hesitant to acknowledge. She finds this new personality accompanies a puzzling, fatal and vindictive adversary. Furnished just with information gathered from books and with the enthusiastic help of her new whimsical close relatives and an especially supportive administrator, Evvie must go up against her witchly nature before her inheritance obliterates her.
